One Dead After Shooting at McDonald's in Lauderhill

A shooting in a Lauderhill McDonald's restaurant left one person dead, as police search for a gunman still on the loose.

It happened in front of families and children around 7 p.m., right at dinner time. The victim, 21-year-old Javaris Domineck, was left lying on his stomach while customers scrambled for help.

Lauderhill Police said it started with an argument between two men at the restaurant on Northwest 55 Avenue, west of Oakland Park Blvd. It is unknown what started the argument.

A woman said Domineck was her god brother. She was with him earlier before his life took a sudden turn.

"I was just in the car with him two hours ago and I just got a call that he was shot and I came up here," she said. "I gotta go to the hospital."

Police sealed off the fast food restaurant and rushed the victim to the hospital in very serious condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the suspect was last seen running from the area wearing a grey hoodie sweatshirt and camouflage shorts.

Brent Upchurch, owner and operator of the McDonald's restaurant, said in a statement: "Our first priority is always the safety of our customers and employees. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family suffering from this senseless act of violence. As this is an active police investigation, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further except to say that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement and hope sincerely that the perpetrator of this crime is brought swiftly to justice."

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
