Gloria and Emilio Estefan Host Annual Thanksgiving Feed A Friend

After a week of Broadway, TV appearances and receiving one of the nation's highest honors, Gloria and Emilio Estefan made time for yet another event.

Their 8th annual Thanksgiving Feed A Friend was held at the Hard Rock in Hollywood and was filled with lots of joy and delicious food.

"You make time for the things that are important in life and there was no way we were going to miss this. It's our favorite event of the year," Gloria Estefan said.

"More than anything else, what I love about today is giving back. I think what this does is bring people together," Emilio Estefan said.

Hundreds of people in need savored some traditional turkey day flavor, but of course with a Latin twist.

"I usually say, I used to call it, our sound is rice and beans and hamburger. This is lechon and pavo together. Rice and beans and turkey," Emilio said.

Members of Covenant House, Feeding South Florida, No More Tears, Big Brothers Big Sisters and several other organizations joined together as one community to give thanks for the meal and the company.

"Everyone's nice here so you shouldn't feel left out and you're supposed to feel safe and happy," said Travyon Fairclogh, Big Brother.

"It's very hard as a single mom to be able to provide for your child," said Betty Jean Jones, domestic violence victim.

Santa was also present kicking off the Christmas spirit, posing with the little ones and also the big kids.

"The kids are doing crafts with our employees who are volunteering and they're also doing face painting and playing games," said Jorge Foyo with Baptist Health.

No matter the age, no matter the income, all witnessed the joy of the season and gave thanks for those who truly make a difference.

"I think this is the most amazing thing I've seen for Thanksgiving," Jones said.

"I think it's very nice to do something for others. And be kind and be thankful on this blessed day," event participant Joyce Brown added.

The Estefan's said next year the community can expect another event just like this.
